If you turn on your Xbox and after just a little while the fans crank up and then it shuts down with two blinking red rings you have an overheating problem. First thing to do is make sure it’s getting plenty of air circulation. Don’t tuck it away in an entertainment center, it simply can’t get enough air to cool down. Next blow out the dust with some canned air (make sure and do this outside).

If nothing seems to help then you most likely have a hardware problem that needs professional servicing. Click on the Xbox repairs to the left and we can help you out.

So you turn on the PS3, green light comes on, and you’re waiting for the welcome screen but nothing shows up. You wait another minute, still nothing just black emptiness. Don’t worry it’s more common than you think and perhaps can be solved in 30 seconds.

This usually happens after you have taken the PS3 to a friend’s house or switched T.V.’s. The PS3 is very bad about auto-detecting what video source it’s connected to, and if it can’t tell it won’t display anything. An easy fix for this is to first check all video connections and make sure the TV is on the right input. Then turn the main power switch on and wait for the red standby light. Now, when you turn on the PS3 press the power button and keep it held for 10-15 seconds. You’ll hear the first usual beep as it powers on and keep holding until you hear a second beep. At that point you can let go and after a few moments a screen should pop up asking if you can read it. What you have just done is manually reset the video on the PS3.

If after doing these steps you still have no video it could be a more serious graphics chip issue. At that point it’s time to call us so we can diagnose what the problem is and get it fixed up for you.

I often get asked about what to do if your disc tray won’t open no matter what. You’ll click on open tray from inside the dashboard or push the eject manually and only hear a clicking as the tray tries to open but nothing happens. Usually it’s a worn gear or drive belt inside the disc drive itself. It can also be the drive tray has gotten off track and can’t open properly.

One thing to try is gently tapping very lightly on the edge of the tray as you try and open it. DO NOT hammer down of the xbox or turn it upside down to try and get it open. Also pulling on the tray or trying to pry it open can cause irreparable damage to the drive turning a simple fix into an entire drive replacement. If it continually gets stuck the best bet is to take it in (to us ) for drive maintenance. Usually it can be fixed quickly and cheaply and extend the life for quite some time.
